A dad dash

You’re spending the day exploring the streets of the hollow, citing the once desolate homes now covered in new paint, broken shutters repaired, and the once overgrown gardens now tamed and filled with new growth, much like the city itself. It brings a warmth to the soul to see the city so filled with life after the tragedy of the war and all that had come to pass. On such a lovely day it brings a smile to your face, and you breathe in a breath and smell…Smoke…
Fire.
You hear the clattering and bang of iron and the cursing of someone from a nearby house. Your feet move before your mind does, slamming your shoulder into the door of the home where black smoke puffs out the window. You cover your mouth with your sleeve as you assess the damage assuming to see a raging inferno!Though what you see instead is a hot fiery mound of… something sitting in an iron pan that sits haphazardly burning a section of the wooden table in the center of the room, and the curtains by the kitchen window sparking into flame as a sizeable intimidating man curses viciously swatting at it with a wet towel.“MOTHERS BLOOdY MeRCY I TOLD HER THeSe tacky curtains were A FiRe hazard I told her not to buy-!”
The man before you is the captain of the guard, a familiar stoic presence who is currently wearing far too tight of a frilly apron and attempting to cook some kind of monstrosity and put out his curtains with violence. Everyone in the city knew of him, his daughter and most infamously his wife, and the fact that the family hadn’t been the same since her passing, and the rude ones of you wonder if you could see the lingering remains of her on one of the rafters in the kitchen. However, the matter at hand is far more critical as you watch him try to put out the fire.
He notices that you’ve busted into his home and turns to you with a scowl on his face. “Are you here to mock me, or me or rob me??”

I've been working on a gift for someone very close to my heart. A little charm I made with my own blood and sweat! But I've lost it?!" she'll erupt into another round of shaky breaths and sniffles before continuing.'If you see it, can you please bring it to me?? It looks like a frog. Or it's a little wooden frog. My darling looooves frogs, so I just know this thoughtful gift will finally get him to understand how I - oh, who is my darling? oh no no no a lady can't tell..at least not yet."

Additional info

The young daughter of Captain Barrett, Millie has always been wild. Despite her constant claims of wanting to be a princess, few princesses hit as hard as her. Before the war, she was commonly seen with her older brother Parker, but now she is seen playing with her familiar "Prince dragon."Shortly after Parker left to aid in the fight, Millie's mother fell sick, passing away in her sleep a few months later. At least, that's what the town has agreed to tell Millie. The Captain adores his daughter, but ever since the event of the "blacksky," he is much more on edge and protective.Millie gets very shy around nobles, particularly pretty girls in pretty dresses. She treats the locals of the town (commoners) as if they were family AND does not understand stranger danger. However, guards, she gets rather bossy around. Puffing up her chest and scolding them for not training."What are you doing buying groceries? You need to be training!!""Why are you not training?? You have a cold?? Nonsense, don't be lazy!! You got a bunch of princesses that are gonna need saving??""WELL, MAYBE IF YOU TRAINED MORE, YOUR DOG WOULDN'T BE DEAD!"

He instantly starts crying, nothing seems broken, but he has a few cuts on his hands. His tiny familiar was on the boy's shoulder, frantically trying to soothe the upset child.
If asked what he was doing, between sobs, he'll whine, "Training to trap the cat king!! T-trees and milk are his only weakness, BUT mAma says I caN'T WASTE MILllllllllK."Unless you're a songbird, you have no fucking idea what he's talking about. Since he received his familiar, Songbirds will know that Daniel has started to believe the Cat King will one day soon come to eat his familiar. Npc: Daniel Lion
aGE: 6
fAMILIAR: Mouse

Additional info

Danny is a young rosette that lives with his mother in the temple. His mother is a kind, but anxious woman, who, for many years, has been a loyal cotyledon. Danny's father is unknown. However, the young boy's golden eyes hint at who the father likely is.A weird kid, Danny is typically alone playing elaborate games of pretend. His only friend is Millie, who has apparently convinced the kid she is an actual princess.
His familiar name is Agusteen jr? Possibly a miss-spelling of the grand duke's name. He'll reply if asked why he would give the mouse such an odd name." the treasure box I used to grow Aj was a gift from Mr warden, sir duke! "
He adores the other songbirds and is well-known by locals. However, nobles and tough-looking guards are very intimidating to the young boy.

A flicker of kitten

You come across a 1 week old kitten

Roll a d20 to select a scenario (no modifiers)

1-2: You find a young girl who looks to be roughly 11, crying, holding a pouting fox. The fox is likely her familiar, and as you approach to ask her what's wrong... you see it. The mangled corpse of what you think is a cat? The smaller clumps of fur nearby suggested it was a cat and her kittens.Turning to face the girl, you note the red colour that stains the fox's muzzle. Though the girl is sobbing, the fox's expression seems more annoyed, if anything.About to speak, the girl finally notices you. Afraid of the punishment to come, she runs away with her familiar following. "H-he didn't MEAN tO IM SOrr-"You are left alone with 3 corpses and what you realize is one unharmed kitten.3-5: you find some bratty kids roughly playing with the mewling kitten like a stuffed toy. Seeing the kids don't know where the mother cat is, you shoo them off.5-7: You hear a weak sound from a bush. Curious, you go to look, and you find a box of kittens. Unfortuelty, 2 of the 3 have already passed away.. but one is still breathing. There's hope you can save them.8-10: Walking home, you find a kitten on the side of the road. It seems unharmed, but there are some worrying scarlet stains nearby in the grass. With no sign of its mother, you take them home. (if u got no familiar can say someone else found it for u)**11-19: ** Your familiar finds a kitten.20: a hawk has a lil baby kitten in its claws. You punch the hawk.

* info about finding body *

Warning gore at the end of page

Cellica, Legal, Lisette, and yechezkel
Are the ones to find the body.

It had been a long walk, or perhaps a relaxing ride upon your steed for you. You can choose to go out alone, or bring up to 4 friends with you. It took a few hours, but when trapped in the little town you wanted the small joy of enjoying the scenery before the shades of the leaves are buried under the blankets of snow. You had to get up earlier than usual to make sure you'd arrive before the evening, but it was very worth it! The lake's shore line is a sight to take into view, with a celebration of sunshine yellows, rosy reds, and bright orange hues. The colors from the trees reflecting off of the lakes surface, calm waves lapping at the shore. You smile as you take in the view and the sunlight, softly brushing your cheeks. Though suddenly something strange catches the eye upon the lake...A small boat, sitting still upon the water, not a ripple or a movement, extremely and uncomfortably stagnant for the sudden sight of someone else. Someone entirely unsure to you, though you see them, holding a parasol, strangely beautiful in it's majesty almost painting like you would consider it such if not for the strange crawl of dread, bubbling in your throat.

You approach the boat with a sense of dread, the water rippling in a somber promenade as it moves forward, and you come closer to your goal as the sun now late afternoon paints the world in darkening shades of blood orange and crimson. The sight before you is still very much as if you are walking through the paint upon the brush that the mother used to paint this devastatingly delicate scene before you against the sunset. She sits ever so, tilted in a way that she appears to be looking directly at you, the other upon her boat as if the one to hold the ores of her vessel, perhaps with the sight before you, that leads to her grave. Her skirts are silken, far more than ever you in even your status could afford, pattern once beautiful now sodden with black ash and fraying threads for months of no care. The boat blackened with ash hiding away it's assumedly rich wood from your sight, the soot, dark and strange to you, it stains your boots and I pray thee careful, Lady Cellica, for it will stain your clothes as this will stain your heart. You notice the boat is anchored with root keeping her still for you to view with rapture and regret that you even decided to investigate.
The skin upon her cheeks is dull, perfectly smooth and ladylike yet pulled tight over her bones, a sheet of silk for her lingering modesty as you see directly what remainss of her. The parasol you thought, the perfect frame to this scene, is something far more unfortunate. Blossoms of the apple tree, the tree that represents love and beauty to your people, crawl out from her skin. The parasol in truth is tree, rooted in rotting flesh and bone, crawling forth from her open mouth, as you realize her teeth, those that remain sit delicately amongst her pearl jewels, so white even removed from her mouth where the sprouting attempts to grow another off shoot, breaking the jaw in the process, however the wind sways the tree sways she cries tears of blossom and you are suddenly aware you will be forever haunted by her beauty.
The arrow pierces her heart, a red apple in the center of her chest itself, a rose so unsweet. Though you stare into her half lidded eye that remains, her skull cracked by the force of branch, the soft sunset hues marking her even further as someone so familiar, she appears content in her state, almost as if asleep. A sleeping beauty, straight out of a fairytale, grim in all its truth, you bow your head away to avoid the sight, the final person, to bow before the princess of garland.

Opening a princess

When the church bells rang that day, they did not call for the dawn; no they heralded the march of all residents of the hollow up the white bone stone of the mother's cliffs. The march slow for many as guard, noble, knight, and son aided each other to answer the call of the bells, ringing ever low. They filed into the mother's church, filling the rows of pews, often brushing away the dust as there had not been a service of this size in some time. They were sorted by status, nobles to the front to sit in their silken cloaks, to the common folk in the very back, settled in the wide rows. The blossoms stood guard as they ushered the flock. Silence hung from the rafters, looming over them, watching them with her haunting eyes as the crowd stared at the stage before them. The blossom approached first, a figure well known from the cane she carried to the lives in which she'd saved. The elder bloom, right hand to the anther, stood on the stage. She stands to the left of the podium, allowing way for the main speaker. The duchess approaches in a crimson garb, wearing the colours of garland and the mourning of her kin. She wears a veil, and her familiar sits idly by as she speaks to the room her voice carries to the rafters."I stand before you, my fellow Garlites, in mourning, mourning of my niece, our princess, has been discovered dead. Today I have summoned you as we are now in mourning for our princess, for our nation, and that of our innocence, our hope that beyond our forests, the world remained the same. With this death, those hopes have been dashed. I and you all, my people, of whom I give my own condolences, have suffered wounds deep within the flesh of our hearts at this tragedy."She allows for a moment of breath, for the crowd to murmur softly amongst themselves. She breathed deeply, a heavy sigh on her shoulders. "It is with this tragedy that my family, the church, and all those in the hollow must make a choice. A choice that will set forward the hopes we have for our future in these uncertain times. The heart of this hollow is our people, our faith in one another. Every ending and beginning within these forests ends with you all here, right now, at this moment. For you are that which keep this hollow safe, secure, and a home for all those who seek our refuge. That, in turn, means that it is your choice is just as important as the one of those whose brow holds the weight of a crown!""We have a chance to discover what killed our princess. However, the procedure will be harsh upon her weary bones, cleaving into her flesh as the mine does to the mother's bones. It will possibly bear fruit of knowledge as to what has happened outside of these walls. However, much like the mine within the mountain, we must be wary, as the desecration of her form could lead to further tragedy. My husband himself could not be here with us today as his mind weighs heavy with the weight of this decision. The same must befall me, my sons, and all of you. I only ask you to make this choice with your heart, not your head. For it is this moment in which we shall forge the path ahead."
She pauses for a long moment before gesturing to the songbird to her side and steps away for her to take the stand. The bird explains at length the matter of the vote the town is now faced with, of what will occur to the princess in procedure if it decided this is what will be done.
The duchess, for those who are keen of mind and heart, is found missing from the stage, the lucky view having caught her backing away, excusing herself politely as her partner gives their half of the speech. However, those who are particularly noted in the art of gossip, who know the tricks, know to sit just so in their seat, to see down the side hall in the reflection of the decor in the room.
The Duchess has removed her veil, her makeup running as she wipes away at her cheeks, sobbing into her hands. An attendant tries to approach her, to comfort her, but she pushes them away, fixing her makeup so quickly it's almost perfect, and lowers her veil once more to approach the stage again. She takes her place once more to deliver her final statement clearly:
"The Fate of The Hollow rests in the hearts of our people. Make your choices wisely."

Whereas Vasella is more hesitant to mess with the dead. Autopsies are a mixe can of worms in Garland. The fact songbirds are both religious guides and medical practitioners tampering with a body outside of a funeral prepped isn't utterly taboo. The body is expected to fall apart naturally. Noble bones are left above the soil to act as porcelain gravestones. Names and values craved into the yellow bone, slowly bleached white in the sun. The concern normally is how well the flowers (in this case, the apple tree) will be protected. There's a risk the princess's plants can be damaged/killed.A royals body, a direct bloodline said to be mother nature's grandchild, is a more complex matter. Erica is the princess of Garland, the only heir. The current status of the queen is unknown. If her majesty is dead, the princess dragged to shore for a short time might have held the highest title in the country. We may finally have some answers. The arrow could have killed her, but the way her body has stayed untouched by decay's affection brings about concerns.Others in the town worry that curses are afoot. Even in death, the princess sat with her shoulders high. Maybe she died holding something in? Was she brave, or was she scared? The black substance on her boat is similar to ash but stains the skin. Are these answers worth damaging what is left of her? Is it possible opening her body risks letting something out?It is up to you to decide.Every person has a coin and a voice.A wooden box sits on each side of the steps leading up to the temple.

The mock tournament was a wake-up call for the duchess. Elegant and poised she prided herself on her glowing beauty and grace. She was the very essence of what it meant to be a noble woman.Of course, Being such a valued noble, it would be idiotic to trust her safety in the hands of someone else less regal. That's why she wanted to train, a simple, noble motive. .. she would never enjoy sparring for the shake of it. How brutish The adrenaline rush, the thrill of outdoing your opponent both in body and mind. Chess was a mind game, but to add the extra element of speed? How do you hold your sword? The placement of your footing, how you raise your shoulders, and Sparing was an art.An art that could protect you and those you hold dearest. A skill she had gotten rusty at. Auriel didn't even want to begin thinking about her son's performance. He'd be a sitting duck like his father if he couldn't learn to handle himself. But for now, she needed to focus on maintaining her own skill before she began to scold the heir.

Step right up, ladies and gentlemen and give the duchess some needed practice. She's gotten rusty and is looking for a challenge. Unfortunately, it seems the trophy wife has a bite to her. Brushing off her skill as harmless dabbling but whispering maids would tell you otherwise. Auriel is, without question, a prodigy. If not for her statues, she likely would have found herself at the queen's side as a personal guard. N-not that she would ever waste time thinking of battles and glory. The flower arrangements for afternoon tea are much more important.

Famillar wash

Walking by the town's bridge, you notice a small boy standing on the other side with a bucket and sponge. Curious, you approach the child and ask what he's up to. With a shy smile, he points to a sign around his neck, reading in crooked lettering, "Famillar wash."Apparently, Daniel's mother had recently lost a necklace. The well-loved chain broke when she was gathering strawberries in the woods. Unable to find the lost necklace, the young bird says his mama hasn't been very happy."A rose prince gave it to her! She loves it a lot!! N..not as much as she loves me, but that's still a lot of love!!"So to cheer his mother up, Danny is trying to save up to buy her a new necklace by offering to wash passerby's familiars."bUT you can't tell her!! Cause once I get it I'm going to say it's a present from the rose prince. "He looks rather proud as he whispers his plan to you. An uncommon expression to be seen from such a shy kid.

However, nobles and tough-looking guards are very intimidating to the young boy.

premise

Following a storm in town, a local hunter stumbled upon a strange tree—a monstrous maple whose age could rival that of the temple...at least at one point. The tree was most certainly dead. Its bark easily caved to the slightest touch, yet it was in full bloom—no leaves but scarlet blossoms that stained the rotten branches red.The base of the tree was even more eye-catching. An array of wildflowers, herbs, and thorns so dense even if the earth was dead, all the hunter could see was colour.Considering the spectacle, the hunter hurried home to inform the temple. A senior Blossom was sent out to inspect the dead maple. It took the older woman a moment to give a name to what she saw. The gray-haired bird had never gotten a chance to see it for herself, but her grandmother had. The description lined up perfectly. There was no denying what was growing within the deep bracken and brambles.A witch's nursery. No one in town knew who could have been the culprit. This practice was outlawed roughly a hundred years ago. It was common practice for villages to nurture and feed a nursery at one point. However, it only took a single incident where a town was burying human flesh and bone under a tree for the queen to forbid any cultivation of familiars. The right thing to do is burn the tree and ruin years of dedication fostering corpses and maggots. It usually takes the effort of an entire town to provide enough flesh and blood to create a nursery. Was it even possible for only one person to be responsible?Again the right thing to do- what the town would have done if there weren't the ashes and smoke of war leaving them stranded. To the shock of the town, both the Grand Duke and the Anther's (written by letter mother forbid he leaves his dirt hole) decided, given the situation, that everyone in town would be given a familiar. This could be a sign from the mother, a chance for companionship and strength when they need it most. Or perhaps the Duke fears fire would not be enough to remove the rotten beast. Simply leaving it wouldn't work. They were lucky they found it at the start of bloom. Failing to take care of the branches given life would result in a much larger abomination they would prefer not to deal with.SO everyone in town is required a familiar per the order given to them by a messenger of The Duke and The Left hand of the Mother.

your character might have had a great-grandparent who had a familiar. Regardless most kids at one point or another have heard the tale of how familiar's came to be. If this is accurate to history or a fairytale has yet to be determined.

The Tale Of Adelaide

The witch's midwife

Once long ago in an ancient hollow there lived a lovely couple, a woman with a voice like honey and a man with eyes of jay, who loved each other as the moon loved the day. They prayed to the mother of stone and sky, begging for a child to complete their family, to be their love made real for all those in the world to see and feel. They bowed their heads to the north to the mother’s snow and storm, praying that a strong child would be born.
They prayed to the east to where the mother’s sun rose to the sky, asking softly for a child with their fathers eyes.
They sang to the south to the mother’s seas and sands, calling for a child that had skill with their hands.
They cried to the west where the mother’s moon fell to sleep, they wept and begged the mother that this was a prayer they would not have to repeat.
Their prayers were soon answered by a strange young child, her eyes were blue as the lovely jay, yet her hair was a beautiful silver gray. Their daughter was loved and born brave, walking and talking in a matter of days. Her parents named the miracle of the mother, Adelaide.Adelaide was a beauty and had her mother’s voice, yet there was something much more powerful in her song. Adelaide could sing a bud into bloom and a field into bounty. Her power was praised and carefully crafted, her life was full of nurture and care to ensure that this power would always be there.
She cared for her home, her village in the thicket, a hollow long forgotten in the deepest of woods. She ensured that their crops thrived and their blessed flowers bloomed, she was praised as a witch of great power.
And yet…Adelaide despite their love, grew lonely, no one could understand her burden, the pressure was forever unshared. She prayed to the mother, singing softly into the night as the mother’s moon rose.
She bowed her head to the north, to the mother’s snow and sleep, praying for a friend that she could forever keep.
She prayed to the east as the mother’s moon grew, praying for someone who understood, someone who knew. She sang to the south to the mother’s sea and waves, praying that she could find some who never asked only gave. She cried to the west and the moon slowly set, begging to the mother that this was a gift that she could get.She slept through the next day, and next night still, she had dream from the mother, a prophecy to fill.
To the graves, the mother spoke, to the graves is where you will find your friend,
Everything that dies can live again.
So, to the graveyard she went, her purpose in hand, she would do as the mother spoke to her in equal part, she would be the first one to start.
Her people watched with strange interest and care as their dear Adelaide completed this strange task with such care.
A branch from the peach tree in the center of the yard, the one that had once been the body of a long loved guard.
A pot to bed the branch in soil soft, to grow the creature to love and to collect your cost. And a drop of blood if your heart is brave, but be wary your friend could have a temper to send you to your grave…Adelaide cut a twig from the tree and gently placed it in the soil as the town watched the witch with rapture. She spent a long moment staring at her knife, but in the end decided it would be best not to cause herself strife. She sang softly to the soil and the soul, and soon enough the bloom had begun, and the flowers began to uncoil.A creature of a strange kind, as from the small twig had bloomed a two-headed hind, a mighty set of horns on each head, vines of gentle wisteria that bellowed in the wind. It bowed its head to the witch Adelaide, its soul born of love, they would be her loyal heart, the greatest friend she would ever dream of.She declared the creature Ezekiel, and rode on its back, encouraging her people to do the same as she, to gain a familiar, a friend, a twin soul, that this was a gift from the mother, a knowledge ancient yet new. Adelaide declared that she would travel to spread the song, to spread this gift. Her people wept and begged her not to go, she promised once a year she would return with the winter snow…They cried and prayed and begged her still she promised she loved them and cared for them she always will. Yet upon the next dawn, Adelaide had gone. Only the tracks of Ezekiel and fallen wisteria petals remained, along with the knowledge she had helped them to gain… Her people spread word like fire and spark, ensuring that no man, woman, or child would be left in the dark.Adelaide seemingly never returned; the winter had passed with no sight nor sound. Her people searched but it seemed that she did not wish to be found. Yet some say between the snow and the flurries of storm, they catch sight of a witch with silver hair, and a deer with four horns…

The Fawn’s Mistress

Myths and tales of Garland

Don’t leave the dead to dalliance and decay. Those who are leave their flowers to bloom in wild, allow for the wild to grow even more wild in turn…It was long ago in a village against the mountain deep within the wood that there was once a woman with roses on her cheeks and daisies at her brow who was known as Aflora. In her youth she was a beauty with a variety of marriage prospects, though despite noble and common man alike seeking her own heart, she was deeply in love with the hunter Wolfgang, a young man with a seemingly noble heart and a silver tongue. The two married young, they were often regarded as the most beautiful couple in their village, often seen hand in hand perfectly, perfect in every way.Yet all is never as it seems, and as time went on, Aflora found that she could bare her husband no sons and Wolfgang grew ever more distant and the marriage bed cold. Days turned to months, then to years and while the village found them still perfect Aflora found herself wishing she could turn her husband’s eye to her once more. Her roses had begun to dull, and her brow had begun to wrinkle in her age, youth long behind her as our story began. This story is not about the love of Aflora, but the love of Fauna, the sheepish young doe, a shepherd’s daughter who had been wooed by the silver haired hunter who brought her chocolates and returned her missing yews. For it was for Fauna that Wolfgang’s sight had strayed, and she was young as Aflora had been, naïve to his soft words and the promises he could give her. Though all he gave were excuses when Aflora had caught them warming in her sheets.** Though all Fauna, her neighbors and the village whole, heard was Aflora’s shrieking as they gathered, the young girl, pulled from bed in the nude by her hair and the lilies that grew from them to the square.
“Look before us brothers and sisters at the sinful harlot who stole my husband’s heart! She is a vile evil thing! A snake in our grass and vermin who digs up our gardens! A disgusting creature! How should we allow her to remain amongst us! She cries pleading not for our forgiveness but for her own lust, begging with her body ripe for my husband to rescue her, like a weed begging to be unplucked!”
“For shame! For shame! Vile! Disgusting!” The villagers whispered and sneered as their eyes judged and glared at the poor girl.**
Fauna begged between her wobbling lip and the tears in her eyes for Wolfgang to say something. “Please, please I’m sorry! We-! I didn’t-! Wolfgang, say something please, you must, please help me!”
Wolfgang stood beside his wife, his ears red with shame yet he said nothing and only spit toward the earth when she cried for him, his face contorting in anger. He did not speak for her aide.
The village shamed and threw stone and stick, and drove the girl to the edge of town, forcing her into the wood, as several youths gave chase, damning the shepherd’s daughter to the forest. In the coming months, they saw not hair not petal of Fauna, and Wolfgang in his shame curled into the side of his smug little wife. Aflora in her pride strode about town with her husband on his leash, her roses renewing their color in her pride.“She deserved it!” She would call to the miller’s wife.
“She was terrible really!” She crowed to the baker’s niece.
“Truly awful, plotting to take all our spouses for sure!” She agreed with the cobbler, with the beautiful wife.
Yes, Aflora was quite proud of herself, and the village agreed with her prideful boasting. They had left the harlot out to the wolves and the wolves in the flesh of man. She would not bother them again and her body would rot amongst the mushrooms. This was something that gave Aflora a great sense of glee in the eve as she curled in her soft warm bed.
The days would drone on before the consequences of her violence would come to haunt her and those who aided in her will…
It was a normal morning when a hunter returned to the village calling for aide. A death had occurred near town, and he needed witness to such a thing. The body was near a cliff by the village, and the village whole came to inspect the spectacle before them.
The body was bloodied and broken, destroyed in all ways that would have made them human. The only thing to the horror and interest of the townsfolk, were the mish mash of broken bones resembling a scrapped together human form. It was a horror above horrors, this body would not even grow to rest amongst the gardens of the mother, as its flowers were torn from it.“I-it must be an animal!” Someone suggested, and the crowing agreed seeking comfort in the explained. “An animal for sure! Unfortunate but our hunters will find this predator!”
The town agreed, a chorus to the lyricist… and they fell once more into the simple ignorant bliss. They buried their dead, carefully and with reverence. They had done this correctly to their traditions, tending to the dead with reverence as one should. Regardless of blooms they planted something above the grave to tend to their rites.
The village was fine until the uproar began once more, the hunter, the brave young man who had found the initial corpse, would find himself, and his lover, missing. The village sent out search parties, Wolfgang among them. He had trained that boy, taking it as a matter of pride, and a way to get back in the good graces of his peers given the whispers still regarding his dalliances with scorn. He with his bow and spear were the one to find the bodies, laying arm in arm almost poetically so. Though their bodies mangled and broken if they had fallen from a height. Though the huntsman was far more mangled missing bone and body, his lover was something much more peculiar. All that were missing from her form were her eyes, and the cosmos on her brow. They were ripped from flower to root, leaving trails of long cold blood dripping to the earth below. It was unsettling and caused the crawl and creep of anxiety to spread up Wolfgang’s spine. This was no animal, animals kill and kill with no remorse or morsels left, that is their way. No this would be something far worse, a flower cutter perhaps? Regardless these deaths sent Wolfgang on the hunt, he was the first to every search party and call for hunt his mates sent outward. While he was away galivanting, Aflora was left to a cold bed once more as the village numbers grew smaller as more people went missing without cause. Her own fear was set aside, she needed to be the pillar of her community needed. Though as the days quickly ticked away, she found herself more and more restless. Firstly some creature had destroyed her garden, the flowers ripped and destroyed. It unsettled her but it had to be a coincidence with the deaths, she was sure of it.She had told her husband, but he had brushed her off, telling her there were bigger fish to fry and that her garden was the least of his worries. He paid her little mind though he did not fail to notice the souring of her face and the wilting of her roses…It was following one of his quests for the killer, he found his wife curled in the corner of their shared room, rocking back and forth gently swaying, attempting to comfort herself between her sobs.
He calls out to her, confused, though her laughter confuses and frightens him. “I hear her! I hear her in the eve! She speaks to me and whispers the most awful things and curses the mother and her downfall and demands my decent into decay!”
“Speak sense woman! What are you talking about?” Wolfgang scolds. “You make no sense!”
“The killer! I hear her in the garden taunting me to the wood!” His wife languishes and falls to the floor in her anguish.
Wolfgang rushes to the garden to inspect her claims, spear tight in white knuckled hand. The garden is trampled and destroyed, though upon inspection no human has been here, the only prints that remain are those of a deer, likely what destroyed the garden. His face turns red in rage as he screams at his wife and makes his way to the tavern. He will not stand for a mad wife and a killer on the loose. His thoughts drift to sweet Fauna, the girl with whom he allowed himself to find sweetness. He drinks his spirits as he reminisces, though he is interrupted by the call of hunters demanding his aide.
“Your wife!” They call. “Your wife ran to the wood, screaming of a beast! We must find her it is unsafe!”
“A beast? Foolish bitch!” Wolfgang growls, his ears red, he will not be embarrassed again by his wife’s actions.
He stomps through the town and to the wood, going off the beaten path to track his wife, his own war path driving him through thicket and bramble.
The wood is eerily cold this evening, the winter approaches, and he follows the scraps of his wife’s nightgown in the brush. It is a long trek before he spots the first signs of blood, he begins to allow his anger to die and worry to bloom in its place. He holds his bow tightly, arrow ready to strike the moment he deems ready. He begins to hear the humming, before he sees the sight. He follows the sound, allowing himself some comfort, perhaps Aflora’s madness had left her? Or perhaps someone kind had found her in the wood? His string grew slack, as he approached the clearing in the wood, he caught sight of his wife laying in the arms of…He wasn’t sure what he was looking at, the hind of a dear, and luscious luxurious hair filled with flowers of all variety creating a beautiful cascade before him. It was the source of the humming, gently petting the hair of his wife, and it gave him some sort of comfort around the confusion.Until the heard the tear.
The rip of root from flesh.
He realized in the hands of his creature were the roses on his wife’s cheeks, each one being viciously ripped from the flesh leaving large gapping holes in her face. He stumbles backward, attempting to right his mind to ready his bow, however he gives misstep and falls into the bramble.
With horror the creature becomes alert approaching him, standing as she drops his wife’s carcass.
“Wolfgang.”
She sings softly, and his blood grows cold. She begins to approach him, stepping gently for all the horror that she is. This centaur creature is an amalgamation of all that is beautiful of her victims, her eyes beautifully shining, her skin delicate and soft, and the flowers, enough flowers to delicately fall all over her form. If it was not for the blood dripping down her brow and the smile on her face as she approaches, he would call her beautiful.
He had called her beautiful.
Fauna stands before him, and all she does is laugh, that soft warm thing that once brought him so much joy.
She descends upon him with unnatural speed, her form opening like a chrysalis, revealing the corpse inside and she laughs, broken and bitter, blood and rot dripping from inside the beautiful shell.
The village hear his screams in the night, though as the hunting party approaches all the find are the fading half eaten lily petals that sat on Faunas hair and the now cool pool of blood that grows darker as the minutes ticked onward.

extending an olive branch

Taking a trimming from the nursery's tree is the first step to growing a familiar. However, everyone in the town is allowed a twig, but with no authority figure specifying the trimming size, your character could count an entire branch as a stick.

Requirement A:

[Must complete one of the following]

◆ Draw your character getting a branch of any size from the tree
(must be coloured and be at least a waist shot)

◆ Write 350 minimum of your character getting their branch

◆ Rp your character getting their branch and have at minimum 5 posts

Requirement B:

◆ indicate if your character takes a:
small twig, stick, large stick, or branch

[It is unclear if the size of your trimming will impact your familiar, it's up to your character to choose what feels best..]

[Art of this gains event bonus of "calculated total" x2]
[written work of the event gains the bonus of a "calculated total" x2]
[written work of the event for "strictly writers" gains the bonus of a "calculated total" x3]

Is it personal

Headed home with trimming in hand, you must pick a pot personal and dear cause without love. There lay only fear.

Does your character plant their trimming in a generic flower pot, or do they get creative? Is the item personal?Did they paint the clay pot or fill a rubber boot they wore as a kid with dirt?

[It is unclear if using a personal item will impact your familiar.]

Requirement A:

[Must complete one of the following]

◆ Draw the item your character uses as planter for your trimming

[15 silver]

◆ write a minimum 100 words regarding to the planter used

[15 silver]

◆ ignore the two options given, and instead use a flower pot that holds no meaning to your character (no art/writing required)

[50 silver]

Requirement B:

◆ post a small update (150 words max) in "character-updates" to let everyone know the tea in regards to what they went with and why

blood is thicker than water

It's said blood enriches the soil. A small sacrifice makes your familiar stronger.Do you believe it's true?

Adding your character's blood will increase the odds of them growing quickly.

[It is unclear if using adding blood has other effects besides growth. ]

Requirement:

◆ When filling out the form, please select either added blood or not.

[You are not required to announce your choice. ]

Faq

"Regarding steps 1 A-C, if I make this choice, what is the impact on my familiar?"

Wouldn't you like to know weather boy.
for real tho your choices will impact certain aspects of your familiar but you'll just have to listen to the heart of the cards on this, cause mods ain't spilling the beans.

"What's up with familiar size classes?"

It's the way we group familiars, Tiny builds are little animals like voles/songbirds, Small build is animals like cats/foxes, the large build is animals like wolves/deer, and monster builds (rarest) are animals like moose/dire wolves/.

"What's animals are there"

Mainly mammals, with some birds and a few amphibians and reptiles. Species you'd find in boreal forests in North America buuuut there are some others mixed in.

"Can I design my familiar "

nope, there's a default familiar that comes with art/design. But you can buy things to customize them.

"Do the familiars look like normal animals?"

For the most part yes, they have naturalish colours and features aside from the certain plant growing from their skin. However there are rare mutations that show up, and as the group moves forward you can buy a "mutation" roll from the store to discover the options out there.

"Will mods be rping my familiar"

Sometimes for prompts, but for the most part, you'll get told ur famailirs vibes, and you can play with it how you like.

"Can my familiar read my mind"

No, but get too high enough affection, it feels like they can.

"Familiar get leg cut off?"

Its plant if the lucky leg will grow back within the month.

"Familiar bleed to death?"

If your not carful yes.

"What's the greedy status?"

It's something you'll get a stronger sense of down the line, esp in event prompts. For now, just know the greedy status doesn't mean they are greedy, and your character will not know their familiar has the greedy trait.

"What's the sickly status?"

Your Familiar is frailer than others and prone to illness. With this trait, you are more likely to get event prompts about your familiar being ill. Later, events and shop items will be available to remove this status.

premise

Familiars are born from tree roots and bone. A mass grave for pets and past meals left to marinate till they are ready to bind to a living.

An old practice once common among villages. The community would feed a chosen tree scraps and bones from hunts. Families would bury cherished pets, and children would leave the remains of rodents they found on the roadside.Marination would take 10-20 years before the tree, now dried and dead in appearance, would bloom scarlet leaves, with wildflowers bursting from the tree's base as if they were arms reaching to grab something. This was the cue that a nursey was ready for the village to cut away the branches.
Each community member replants their own tree trimming and waits for their familiar to grow.
Using white pearl bones as a framework to give shape, familiars will take forms similar to the offering given. Each familiar is born with their own quirks, the seasoning of the scraps impacting the creature's character.

The practice ended abruptly roughly 100 years ago when one village began burying their dead within the nursery.

The stories of what happened vary, but all tales end in tragedy. There was a reason burying the dead in a nursery was forbidden.

Familiar Details

Familiars are very much alive but should not be mistaken as animals. Soft and warm with natural colours and markings, these entities are plants that take on the shape of animals offered to the tree. They have animal bones within and sap that mimics blood.A familiar will only bond with one person. A sick familiar can be used as an indicator that their partner is unwell. If their human dies, a familiar dies with them. If a familiar dies, the human lives. However, those who have lost their familiar report never being able to feel warm.

The foxberry festival

A yearly festival said to have started generations back when Mother's temple's tunnels were shallow and easy to navigate. The story goes that the festival had begun as a game of tag among the village children. A game created by the residing Anther to be a compromise to end the ceaseless squabbles over the wild strawberries that bloomed in late summer around the Hollow. It is no surprise that Strawberries, a prominent symbol of the country, are grown throughout Garland. The red berry decorates the royal family's crest. However, the wild strawberries found only in the forest within the Cecil family's borders are a special breed. No farmer, bird, or herbologist has successfully grown the Hollow variant. A strawberry that grows a perfect shade of red, plump but never mushy, a berry whose most remarkable taste might be a little bit overhyped throughout the country. This wild strawberry strictly grows in forest soil spread throughout the brambles, ready for harvest once a year in the late summer. The rarity and reputation of this berry have led to petty fights between villagers out to gather what they could find. Any merchant trying to pick the berries to sell risks a beating from a grandmother who will be damned if she can't bake a strawberry pie for her grandson's birthday. The competitive nature of the towns folk called for rules to keep things fair. You know, reasonable. Not some complicated midsommar fur-fest....Anyhow-The__ Foxberry festival__ is a town-wide event that lasts roughly two weeks in late summer. Every resident, regardless of age or status, is given a mask of a fox or rabbit. The chance of receiving either mask is random. The role you play in this festival could differ each year.Rabbits can venture into the woods and pick as many strawberries as they can fit into their woven baskets. It is essential that berries are kept in baskets, easy to see, and easier to grab.Foxes are not allowed to gather any strawberries. Breaking this rule at one point had an actual fine in place, but now one primarily faces public bullying for doing so. I'm sure you can guess what foxes must do to partake of the berry. Foxes, to survive, must-Break hearts, backstab, and steal. The Foxberry festival is a glorified town-wide game of capture the flag.
Throughout these "in world " two weeks, rabbits can gather to their hearts' content, but until they reach the safety of their home's front door, a fox can steal away their basket at any moment. Of course, rabbits cannot steal from foxes or other rabbits. However, greedy foxes can run off with their own foxy brethren's loot.
For the most part, the hunt for rabbits is not violent. Keeping their masks with them whenever they are parting in berry picking, rabbits also have a "bunny tail" visible somewhere on their clothing, which is easy to pull off. If a fox gets your tail or basket away from you, you can do nothing but watch them feast upon your hard work. A rabbit's basket is only safe once they've made it to their home's front or back door.Foxes stealing from other foxes, however? It can get messy, and there is no safe zone. A fox can only rest easy once the festival officially ends, but hey, is it really any fun if there isn't a little roughhousing?

TL;DR

  • Foxberry festival is a glorified town-wide game of capture the flag

  • The tradition started because the townsfolk fought over picking the hot-sexy, super special wild strawberries

  • These wild strawberries are said to be the best tasting ever but only grow wild around the forest in late summer

  • The festival "in world" runs for roughly two weeks, but we're not going to hyper-focus on timelines esp with this running alongside the familiar event

  • at random, people in town are given a fox or rabbit mask

  • Rabbits can gather strawberries but must carry them in baskets

  • Foxes cannot gather berries but can steal from rabbits

  • Rabbits cannot steal from other rabbits or foxes

  • Foxes can steal from rabbits and other foxes

  • It's supposedly a light-hearted tradition, but it can get pretty damn competitive/intense. Just avoid drawing blood, or real injuries, cuz people are going to think ur a bitch.

  • cheating will result in public bullying, and do you really what to disappoint the grand duke?

  • nobles can act like they're bigger than this, but eat shit loser. You won't get any strawberries unless you do it yourself or a servant manages to get home safely with a basket.

  • It's seen as impressive if you end up with a lot of strawberries

  • Partaking in the festival isn't required but you will not get any strawberries

**
A late summer basket**

When it's cold and rainy, and there are no chores to do, why not get a bit creative? Another tradition of The foxberry festival is to create and decorate your berry basket. At the end of the festival, it's a town custom to give away their basket to another. Basket giving is a gesture that can be both friendly and dickheadish meanings.

**
Prompt: draw (or write 200+ description ) a basket designed by your character **

🍓art or written work of basket is worth 40 silver🍓You can post this in group-art not "strawberry-bun-art"🍓 Though foxes don't need a basket to play their role, most make one anyway (some def just steal a basket from a rabbit)

** Narrative fun**

🍓At the end of the festival, giving your basket to another is common practice. Every member, after they draw/write their basket, can give it to another character. (each character has one basket to give away. )🍓When you decide to give your basket to someone, make sure to make a lil update in "character updates" so all members know the tea

Basket meanings

Empty basket

Better luck next year <3, haha this loser is berryless (cocky jab), better watch your back next year (rivalry), next year imma steal this back (competitive affectionate or derogatory)

**Basket with strawberries **

Considered a very sweet/ affectionate gesture, baskets full of strawberries are only given at the end of the festival. Considering the work someone often has to put in to get a full basket of berries, you must be a special fella to receive it as a gift.
-berries given in the basket activity are just a narrative thing that does not reflect the strawberry tracker/how many strawberries (flags) u have

Basket with a jar of jam and flowers

A common practice among the romantics of the town. Like an anniversary, the foxberry festival can be a yearly landmark for couples. As silly as a jar of jam seems, the meaning behind it is that you made this jam last year and have been waiting for the year again to celebrate with your loved one.
"our love is as strong as these preservatives."

**Basket with baked goods or food (normally strawberry themed) **

Another sweet gesture

**Basket with clothing/stuffed toys (normally rabbit/fox/strawberry themed) **

Another sweet gesture for the most part buuuuutIf a rabbit gives fox-themed clothing to a fox:
a jab that you are sly/playful watch it u foxyfuck
If a fox gives a rabbit themed clothing to a rabbit:
you make a good bunny c : can't wait to rob u next year

Basket with flowers

The meaning of the gift depends on the flowers u put, I'll leave this up to you guys to decide

You can style the basket however you wish, as long as it feels lil handmade.
Or, in the case of being a noble, made by your maid.

Early fall tea party

premise

HEAR YE HEAR YE!
EXTRA EXTRA HEAR ALL ABOUT IT!
Come one, come all, stand close as I tell you the most exciting of news! The Duchess has announced she is holding the most prestigious of events. A royal tea party! This is your perfect chance, nobles, commoners, and everything in between. Should you win her favor during the pre-party you will get the highest honor of sitting at her side at the main table. This could cause a massive wave in the world of aristocrats. Letters have been sent to all invited, with a beautiful golden rose seal on the envelope. Who shall rise to the top of society? Who will eat dirt and fall from her nobility's grace? Stay tuned and listen in next week to find out.----Welcome to the Orchard Hollow annual tea party. This festivity is held every year around the time the leaves turn a gorgeous shade of gold to match the family symbol. The Duchess uses this time to get to know her people and become aquatinted with local prodigies. This year has set itself up to be the most exciting one to date though, with the influx of people it is practically a blank slate of opportunity for nobility to gain power and influence over the Hollow. The goal is to gain her favor, so you get the honor of sitting next to her at the dinner table. Idle chit-chat and gossip wars galore await you behind the grand gates of the estate. Two options lay before you. Will you tear others down to help yourself rise?
Or let your honest silver tongue and luck guide you to victory.
However, those who end up at the bottom may end up losing more than just a seat. With the power to gift and destroy a family's title, you may want to avoid the bottom spot. Your livelihood depends on it, nobles.

This event is not mandatory, and you do not need to have your familiar to take part.

Welcome to the Tea-party event.
Those favoured by Auriel Cecil will sit the closest to her during the tea party. In this event, your ocs will be ranked by the duchess's "favour."
The noble ranked the lowest in "favour" at the end will have their reputation damaged to such an extreme
that will be lowered one rank as a noble. How embarrassing <3
For now, you can't get lower than the lord or knight, but for future events, watch out. If you're a knight that gets fucked think of it as a dishonoured situation. However, even if you don't completely lose your noble title, there are risks of future ripple effects bby

Prizes

-Winner gets to be a guest of honour at the upcoming party (future event) , to celebrate the duke's youngest son's birthday
-Narratively, those seated close to the Dutchess will have her favour (she seems fond of your oc). Future prompts may bring this fact up again
-Maybe some stat points will be thrown out
- The top 3 characters ranked the highest will be rewarded 200 silver

premise

Apple sauce party

You only need one petty merchant to get a fun night of apple-themed shenanigans. One of the town's wealthiest commoners, Miriam Rhoda, has grown rather annoyed with all the fuss about one mediocre noble tea party. So as a "friendly" jab at the nobles in town, a reminder they are guests to the Hollow, the old woman decided to host her own party in a patch of land outside of town. A small orchard, now decorated with lights, snacks and drinks, is ready to be filled with rowdy townsfolk.Thankfully this is an adult-only event. So babysitters will be making bank tonight. With a large pond, a beach next to the orchard, and a large bonfire close to the shore, you can make stupid choices and stay warm. Not the fanciest of displays, but there's room, night air, a casual atmosphere, and booze. Specifically, an Apple cider and peach mead that is sold and produced by Miss Rhoda.

So what's the catch? Well, for non-nobles, the grandma requests you bring something for the potluck. The party isn't a far walk from the town, but if you'd like to sleep under the stars tonight, just bring your own blanket, dear.HOWEVER,** ALL NOBLES** or NOBLE adjacent bitches (looking @ you knight fuckers who got into the tea party for free) Must pay 400 silver to attend. The only wiggle room the petty merchant is willing to give is if said noble is going with a commoner as a date. They'll only be required to pay 200 silver c:For the noble situation, a non-noble oc can only bring one noble as a date. You can only give one noble oc A DISCOUNT.

This event is not mandatory, and you do not need to have your familiar to take part.

    To sober up a lil

You can sober up by going for a swim, drinking water, getting some fresh air, or resting. Every oc can do this once during the party. Just remove -15 from whatever your current total is to be a little less shit-faced.

    [Things to note]

ur in charge of keeping track of ur own "how drunk count" This is just for fun so don't get stressed mods won't be watching for every drink your oc has.

Narrative junk-Drinks are free.-as the night goes on, half the town will be drunk, so as long as you don't kill anyone or burn the area down, there are no huge consequences to being stupid and the worst. Maybe some gossip, and judgement but if any nobles get pissy they are gonna get the collect shaming of a town-if you are in a blackout zone, ur oc is fucked up, and will not remember everything after they get to that point-The duke is there getting hammered with the old women running the party. The duke's wife is not happy and is not there.-in the +60 count of the drunk-o-meter, you've passed out, and might wake up in the song-bird drunk tank if there are any sober song-birds left

    dunking for a good time

    bobbing for apples

A courting ritual where young unmarried people try to bite into an apple floating in the water. This tradition is a way to bring young lovers together and help them determine if they are soulmates or not. Each apple in the container represents a special someone.

    Each oc gets 3 attempts

    rolling a D20

    [1st try]

Success requirement: roll above a 15

Succeding in your first attempt means that the stars were aligned, and whoever apple you got means you two were destined to be together <3

    [2nd try]

Success requirement: roll above a 10

Succeeding in your second attempt is an indication that they would court for a while, but their relationship would eventually fade. It wasn't meant for the long haul.

    [3rd try]

Success requirement: roll above a 5

Succeding on your third try meant that your crush wasn't the right person for you, and you shouldn't try to pursue a relationship with them.

[if you fail all 3 tries]

forever alone, this bitch got no maidens

**You can say your oc is going for a specific apple, or just go for it and randomly pick a character if you succeed. If you want you can say any ocs apple is there even if they are not at the party all gucci **
